For all kinds of water sports like windsurfing, diving and canoeing special suits are designed and marketed. They are known as wetsuits. There are also suits for swimming which are known as swim suits and then there are full wetsuits.
Wetsuits are usually close or tightly fitted garments or suits made of foamed neoprane or permeable material. Its main purpose is to help retain the body heat of the people who play water sports in highly cold water.
These suits enable you to remain buoyant in water. This means that people can easily float in water without being dragged down. Also, full wetsuits provide you with abrasion resistance and thermal insulation to make a person comfortable. To reduce conductivity of heat the insulation is done by trapping bubbles of gas in the material.
The wetsuits were first introduced in the 1950′s and were made of foamed neoprene but later nylon was added to take to make them thicker. Other improvements were also made to make the full wetsuit water proof.
A variety of wetsuits are made for different purposes and temperature. In order of coverage wetsuits are available in different shapes like full wetsuits. There is a sleeveless vest to cover the torso only. Then there is a jacket to cover the torso and arms. A ‘shorty’ or spring suit covers the torso and has short sleeves for both the legs and the arms. Then there is a full suit which covers the whole body.
This means the full torso, the full arms and the full legs. This suit is also known as a steamer. These suits are highly recommended when you go for scuba diving or ocean diving. They can also handle a lot of weight compared to other kinds of suits. It is normally needed for water temperatures below 65F. It may also be available with a bootie, hoods and wetsuit socks. A full wetsuit is extremely beneficial as it provides cover to your whole body. The only important thing to keep in mind is the quality of it.
